Cryopen Lesion Removal
CryoPen is a safe, precise and effective method for removing benign skin lesions.
Using a fine, highly targeted jet of pressurised nitrous oxide, CryoPen freezes the unwanted tissue with precision, while helping to minimise disruption to the surrounding healthy skin.
Treatment is quick, requires no cutting or stitches and is generally very well tolerated, making it a convenient option for the removal of suitable benign lesions.
Many benign skin lesions are not routinely removed by the NHS when treatment is for cosmetic reasons, meaning private removal may be an option once the lesion has been appropriately assessed and confirmed as suitable for treatment.
We also offer a skin lesion screening service for any lesions you would like professionally checked before considering removal.
What lesions can be treated?
CryoPen can be used to treat a wide range of benign skin lesions, including:
Cherry Angiomas
Sun Spots (Solar Lentigines)
Skin Tags
Seborrhoeic Keratoses
Warts
Sebaceous Hyperplasia
Please note: Your safety is always our priority. While many lesions can be identified as suitable for treatment during your appointment, we may ask for confirmation that a lesion is benign and safe to remove if we feel further assessment is needed.
For convenience, you can use our Check My Mole lesion screening service, where your lesion is imaged using a specialist Dermascope lens and reviewed by a Consultant Dermatologist. Alternatively, you can visit your GP for further assessment or referral.

FAQs
-
Cryosurgical treatment has been established to be extremely safe and a low risk procedure. It directly treats the lesion without harming the surrounding tissue.
-
The treatment is virtually painless and generally very well tolerated, even for those with a low pain threshold.
Some patients may experience a mild stinging for only a few seconds.
-
Depending on the lesion, most will shed after 5-14 days but can take up to 4-6 weeks.
-
Due to the nature of Cryopen treatments, less aftercare is needed than with other methods such as electrocautery, cold knife or laser. The effected area is often known to heal quickly with minimal issue.
For 48 – 72 hours after treatment you must not sunbath or use other heat treatments such as sunbeds, sauna or steam. The lesion must also be kept dry during this time, when showering the lesion can be covered with a plaster.
Creams, ointments, deodorant or any other topical cosmetics must be avoided (directly on the lesion) until the lesion has fully healed.
Full aftercare instructions will be emailed to you following your treatment.
-
Depending on how many lesions we are treating in one session will determine the length of your appointment. One lesion can take 5-20 seconds to treat.
-
Mild swelling and redness may occur for 1-2 hours after treatment. The treated site then darkens. It is not uncommon for a blister to develop on the treatment site.
-
Cryopen is not recommended during pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, suitability will be assessed during consultation and treatment may be postponed as a precaution.
-
Makeup should not be applied for 48 hours following treatment to allow the skin to recover and reduce the risk of irritation or infection.
-
Direct sun exposure must be completely avoided on the treated area for 6 weeks after treatment. Daily use of a high broad spectrum protection SPF is essential, as sun exposure can increase the risk of adverse pigmentation and compromise results.
