Enlarged Pores
Helping you understand, refine and improve your pore appearance…
Understanding Pores
Do you feel like your pores are becoming more noticeable, particularly around your nose, cheeks or forehead? Perhaps you've tried countless pore-minimising products, only to find that nothing seems to make a lasting difference?
Visible pores are completely normal, and they play an essential role in healthy skin function. However, when they become more prominent, they can affect the overall appearance and texture of our skin.
At ME, we believe that understanding why your pores appear enlarged is far more important than simply trying to minimise their appearance.
Because enlarged pores aren't always about excess oil. Dehydration, inflammation, barrier dysfunction and ageing can all influence how noticeable they become.
What causes enlarged pores?
Pores are the visible openings of our hair follicles, allowing sebum (our natural oil) to reach the skin's surface. Their size is largely determined by genetics, but several factors can influence their appearance.
Sebum production: Excess oil and congestion can make pores appear larger, particularly across the T-zone, where sebaceous glands are more active.
Ageing & collagen loss: Declining collagen and elastin reduce structural support around follicles, making pores appear wider.
Inflammation: Can affect surrounding skin tissue and texture, making pores more noticeable.
Dehydration & barrier dysfunction: Reduced hydration and impaired barrier function can affect skin suppleness and emphasise pores.
Essential fatty acids: Important for healthy barrier function; inadequate levels may affect skin texture.
Sun damage: UV exposure accelerates collagen breakdown, reducing the skin's structural support.
Pores don't physically open and close, nor can we permanently change their genetically determined size. However, addressing the factors influencing their appearance can help them look less noticeable and more refined.
How Can We Help?
Through a comprehensive consultation and Observ 520x skin analysis, we can assess your skin's condition and develop a personalised treatment plan.
Once the skin is functioning optimally, we can introduce treatments that support collagen production, skin firmness and overall texture, helping to improve the appearance of enlarged pores.
These may include:
Bespoke Corneotherapy Treatments: Focus on replenishing essential lipids, improving hydration and supporting epidermal barrier function.
LED Light Therapy: Supports skin repair and helps regulate inflammation, creating a healthier environment for optimal skin function.
Microneedling: Encourages collagen remodelling, helping to improve skin texture and the structural support surrounding pores over time.
IPL Skin Rejuvenation: Helps improve overall skin clarity and texture, leaving the skin looking smoother, firmer and pores visibly more refined.
We may also recommend suitable homecare treatments, including home LED therapy and carefully selected home microneedling where appropriate, to complement your in-clinic treatment plan.
Our goal isn't to eliminate pores, because healthy skin needs them. It's to improve the quality, firmness and function of the surrounding skin, helping pores appear more refined and less prominent.
